The Fifth Sunday of Lent

Passion Sunday

The beginning of Passiontide marking the last two weeks until Easter day, although the Roman Catholic Church no longer include Passiontide in their liturgical year, except for those who practice Traditional Latin Mass and also many Protestant denominations.

In many traditions, this is the day to have crucifixes and statues veiled in a (usually red) cloth. The practice is in association with the line:

'Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.' (John 8:59)

Carling Sunday

This is a day is also called Carling Sunday due to a tradition in Northern England of eating black peas, which has many names but one of them being carling peas.

Previous Day: Laetare

Next Day: Palm Sunday
